The Obamas Spend Valentine's Day 2014 Apart, But Exchange Kisses On Twitter

Mrs. Obama tweeted this photo to her husband on Friday
President Obama will be in California through Monday...
Washington, DC - Thanks to a trip to California today, President Barack Obama won't be home to celebrate Valentine's Day with First Lady Michelle Obama.  But the First Couple, married for 21 years, exchanged romantic greetings on Twitter.

The Obamas celebrated Valentine's Day early, when Mr. Obama escorted his wife to a romantic dinner last Saturday night at DC's Oyamel restaurant.  Mrs. Obama has dubbed the Mexican hotspot one of her favorite local eateries.

"Hey Barack, I'll always be your valentine! #HappyValentinesDay -mo," Mrs. Obama tweeted on @FLOTUS with the photo at top.

Tweets signed "mo" are personally posted by Mrs. Obama, rather than by aides.  Unlike her husband, Mrs. Obama has no public events scheduled today.  The President is traveling to Fresno, California to tour a drought-stricken farm and announce millions of dollars in federal relief.  He'll remain in the Golden State through Monday.

"May I?"
On the @WhiteHouse Twitter account, a Valentine's Day-themed tweet included a photo of the President escorting Mrs. Obama off the stage at Tuesday night's State Dinner.

"May I? #HappyValentinesDay" was written, as if to imply dancing.

Dancing was actually off limits at the formal gala, thanks to the Guest of Honor being stag.

This evening the President will travel to Rancho Mirage, California, for a  meeting with His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan at Sunnylands, the Walter and Leonore Annenberg Estate.  He'll huddle in the desert warmth until he returns to the bitterly cold Washington, DC on Monday afternoon.  There'll no doubt be time for golf.

"@MichelleObama is still the best Valentine"
There was more Twitter romance on Friday: "Here's the truth: @MichelleObama is still the best Valentine," was tweeted on the @BarackObama account with the above White House photo of the First Couple taken in 2009.

The account is now run by Organizing for Action, and no one has tweeted on the @MichelleObama account since March 4, 2013.  But it's the thought that counts, right?

The White House on Friday also made a Valentine's Day-themed push on social media for enrollment in health insurance plans on, which included a Twitter star turn from actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus, a guest at Tuesday's State Dinner.  Other celebs also posted #GetCovered tweets, as did Vice President Joe Biden.
