Washington, DC - President Barack Obama's grassroots arm, Organizing for Action, is running a fundraiser pegged to First Lady Michelle Obama's milestone 50th birthday on Friday, Nov. 17th.

In an email sent on Thursday, OFA Executive Director Jon Carson asked supporters to sign a birthday card for Mrs. Obama.  Signing automatically takes supporters to a donation page.

"Before her birthday tomorrow, let's show the First Lady just how many of us think she's pretty incredible," Carson wrote in his email, adding "you can even add a personal note."

After signing Mrs. Obama's card, supporters see a donation page headlined "Thanks--can you chip in?"  OFA is asking for donations beginning at $15 and going up through $1,000 (or more).  Both the card webpage and the fundraising webpage use photos taken by Chief Official White House Photographer Pete Souza.

The Democratic National Committee is also running a birthday card fundraiser pegged to Mrs. Obama's 50th, and using photos taken by Souza, too.

The subject line for Carson's email read "XXX, Let's show the First Lady we think she's incredible."

The text of the email:

Last year, First Lady Michelle Obama celebrated her birthday by taking some time to record a personal message for OFA supporters.

Now, we're returning the favor.

The First Lady turns 50 on January 17th -- that's tomorrow. I'm sure she'd love to hear from you.

Sign OFA's birthday card for First Lady Michelle Obama -- you can even add a personal note.

Before her birthday tomorrow, let's show the First Lady just how many of us think she's pretty incredible. After all, she was there cheering us on when we first got Organizing for Action off the ground.

If you've got a minute today, sign our card for First Lady Michelle Obama:
