Mrs. Obama will promote Drink Up campaign; NBC reality series has had three White House-themed episodes since 2009...
Washington, DC - First Lady Michelle Obama will tout her Drink Up campaign on NBC competition reality show The Biggest Loser in an episode scheduled to air in November. It will be Mrs. Obama's second appearance on the weight loss series, which filmed an episode at the White House last year as well as an episode in 2009 featuring the presidential chefs.
Brita, a water filter maker and commercial sponsor for Loser, orchestrated the appearance, according to Broadcasting & Cable, which first reported the news. Brita is one of the many backers for Mrs. Obama's hydration campaign, which encourages people to drink one glass of water each day.
Mrs. Obama last appeared on Loser in a White House-themed episode for the Let's Move! campaign that aired in April of 2012, joining contestants for a work out in the East Room (photo at top). Show host/trainer Bob Harper subsequently appeared with the First Lady at multiple Let's Move! events, including the 2012 Easter Egg Roll.
Championship NASCAR driver Carl Edwards, a member of the President's Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition, will also appear on a separate episode of Loser this season, leading contestants in a workout.
When Loser first filmed at the White House in November of 2009, the First Lady did not appear onscreen. The show hosts and contestants visited Mrs. Obama's Kitchen Garden and harvested vegetables before making these into "The White House Biggest Loser Salad" during a visit to the kitchen with Executive Chef Cris Comerford and Assistant Chef Sam Kass. Mrs. Obama launched the Let's Move! campaign in February of 2010, and Loser's 2009 episode was to promote healthy eating and gardening.
