Happy (early) Birthday, Mr. President...
Washington, DC--President Barack Obama on Wednesday made a rare trip to Capitol Hill to meet with House and Senate Democrats. Though his 52nd birthday isn't until this Sunday, August 4th, during his huddle with the House Caucus, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (CA) presented the President with a dark chocolate birthday cake. After the meeting, Pelosi tweeted the photo, above, of herself with the President and his cake.
"Wished President @BarackObama an early happy birthday in the most delicious way possible. #darkchocolate," Pelosi wrote.
The President doesn't look that thrilled with his lavish cake in Pelosi's photo, however. The dark-chocolate icing was decorated with chocolate curls and gold flecks, and topped with the Presidential seal in fondant. "Happy Birthday Mr. President" was written on top.
Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT) also tweeted a picture of the President and his cake, with the candles lit.
"The President doesn't get a lot from the House of Reps. But he got a birthday cake just now," Himes wrote with the photo.
The President will travel to Camp David in Maryland on Saturday, and spend the day there before returning to the White House on Sunday. No other plans for his birthday have been announced. Perhaps his favorite food, broccoli, will be part of his birthday dinner, served with cake--or pie, his favorite dessert, which has been served at previous birthday celebrations.
In 2011, the President's landmark 50th birthday party made the White House as hot as when the British tried to burn it, and included celebrity revelers--Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Chris Rock, Jay-Z, Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson, Charles Barkley, Grant Hill, Whoopi Goldberg, Emmitt Smith, Steve Harvey, and actor Hill Harper.
