Before President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama hit the South Lawn on Monday morning to to greet their guests for the 2013 Easter Egg Roll, the White House pulled an April Fools’ Day prank using Twitter and YouTube. It featured Egg Roll 'special guest' Robby Novak, aka Kid President. (Above, Novak on the Truman Balcony with the Obamas and the Easter Bunny)
"At 10:00 a.m. ET, the White House will release a special video message from the President," read the prankster Tweet on @WhiteHouse with a link to YouTube..
When viewers clicked the link, they saw the White House press briefing room and heard "Hail to the Chief." And then Novak popped out from beneath the press podium.
“It looks like you were expecting somebody else,” said Novak, climbing on a box to be tall enough to peer over the podium. "Well April Fools’ on all y’all!
"I’m Kid President and I hope everyone has an awesome day!" Novak said.
"I made it to the White House! I’m here! Peace," Novak said as he flashed peace signs a la President Nixon. He then exited the podium...but came back for a couple more out- takes.
By 10:30 AM Novak was standing on the Truman Balcony with the Easter Bunny, introducing the President and Mrs. Obama to hundreds of guests gathered on the South Lawn. He could barely see over the railing. (Above, Novak with the Easter Bunny)
"Robbie, we’re so proud to have you here," Mrs. Obama said told him. "You have been so inspiring...you make us all want to work hard and be better."
So you’re going to spend a little time in the Oval Office just fixing things up for this President, aren’t you?"
