Local TV reporter invited to White House doesn't notice slip-up until other media outlets pounce...
On the sidelines of her fifth annual planting event in the Kitchen Garden on Thursday afternoon, First Lady Michelle Obama did interviews with local TV reporters invited by the White House from the states represented by the school-student helpers who worked in her garden. Speaking with Vermont CBS affiliate WCAX about Let's Move!, the First Lady called herself a "single mother." (Above, Mrs. Obama in the Kitchen Garden)
"Believe me, as a busy single mother--or, I shouldn’t say single, as a busy mother," Mrs. Obama corrected herself.
"Sometimes, you know, when you’ve got a husband who is president, it can feel a little single. But he’s there."
Mrs. Obama then changed her title to "busy working mom" as she discussed the challenges parents face when trying to feed their children healthy food.
"But as a busy working mom, and before coming to the White House, I was in that position, you know, as well," Mrs. Obama said. "Working, driving kids to practice, not having enough time to shop or cook, not having the energy, you know, the resources weren’t the issue but time and energy is key."
WCAX didn't even notice the slip-up until other media outlets "and bloggers" pounced, reporter Bridget Barry Caswell, who interviewed Mrs. Obama, wrote on the WCAX website:
"We didn't take note in our coverage and WCAX News placed the entire seven and a half minute interview on the WCAX website. But by day's end, the first lady's flub had gone viral with mainstream media and bloggers across the country."
On Thursday, the President was finishing the second day of a fundraising swing through California, where he'd rubbed elbows with major donors.
