Monday: First Lady Michelle Obama's First-Ever Let's Move! Google+ 'Fireside Hangout'

On Monday, March 4, First Lady Michelle Obama will continue celebrating the third anniversary of the Let's Move! campaign with her first-ever Google+ 'Fireside Hangout,' responding to questions submitted from across the nation.  Kelly Ripa, co-host of morning talk show LIVE with Kelly and Michael, will moderate the Blue Room event at 11:10 AM ET. "Mrs. Obama will participate in a completely virtual conversation with parents and kids from around the country," the White House said, and "answer questions about her Let’s Move! initiative using her office’s @FLOTUS twitter account."

The hashtags will be #LetsMoveTour, according to the First Lady's Office, and #letsmove and #healthyliving, said Google+.  The Fireside Hangout will be streamed live on LetsMove.gov, the Let’s Move! YouTube Channel and the White House Google+ Page.


Prospective participants were invited to submit questions by Feb. 28; 631 people submitted 117 questions and cast 4,561 votes on the Let's Move! YouTube Channel.

Last week, Mrs. Obama traveled to Clinton, Mississippi; Chicago, Illinois; and Springfield, Missouri to celebrate the anniversary of her campaign, which she launched on Feb. 9, 2010.  She announced a series of new partnerships and private sector commitments.  (Above, Rachael Ray during the anniversary  visit to Mississippi)

On Tuesday, Mrs. Obama announced the MyPlate Recipe Partnership during an appearance on Good Morning America, where she was joined by celebrity chef Marcus Samulesson. In a commitment from five media corporations and Pinterest.com, 18 popular cooking websites will flag recipes that make it easier to cook at home in accordance with the 2010 Dietary Guidwlines for Americans. 

On Wednesday, Mrs. Obama visited Clinton, Mississippi, to praise the state for its anti-obesity efforts, and to host a school-lunch themed culinary battle with celebrity chef Rachael Ray.  The Let's Move! Cafeteria Cook-Off will be broadcast on Rachael Ray Show on March 11.

On Thursday morning, Mrs. Obama traveled to Chicago, Illinois, where she was joined by Olympians and sports heroes at a fitness fest with 6,000 kids and parents to announce a new fitness initiative, Let's Move! Active Schools.  NIKE, Inc. and non-profit foundations are partnering with Let's Move! to promote school-based fitness projects, in a $70 million effort over five years, with the goal of enrolling 50,000 schools. NIKE, Inc. has pledged $50 million.

On Thursday afternoon, Mrs. Obama visited a Walmart Neighborhood Market in Springfield, Missouri to pay tribute to the company, which first partnered with her campaign in 2011.  Mrs. Obama also penned an OpEd for The Wall Street Journal on the profitable business of selling healthy food.   

Since launching her third anniversary celebration last Friday, Feb. 22, with an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Mrs. Obama has also appeared on The Dr. Oz Show, as well as given interviews to many media outlets, large and small.  Mrs. Obama's video with Jimmy Fallon, the "Evolution of Mom Dancing,"  has  had more than 13.7 million views as of Saturday night.  And, of course, Big Bird has joined the First Lady to promote healthy eating and fitness. 

Next Friday, March 8, Mrs. Obama will give the keynote address at Partnership for a Healthier America's second annual child obesity summit in Washington, DC.
