Let's Move! campaign will be spotlighted; free ticket lottery opens February 21st...
April Fool's Day at the White House this year will be devoted to giant bunnies and colored Easter eggs. President Obama and First Lady Obama announced today that this year’s annual White House Easter Egg Roll will be on Monday, April 1st. Mrs. Obama's Let's Move! campaign will be spotlighted, as it has been in previous years. More than 35,000 guests will participate in the festivities on the South Lawn, the White House said. The rollicking Roll marks its 135th anniversary this year, in a tradition that dates back to 1878. The event takes its name from the centerpiece egg race, where kids do battle with wooden kitchen spoons to race their Easter eggs up a grassy track.
"The event will feature live music, sports courts, cooking stations, storytelling and, of course, Easter egg rolling," the White House said. "In support of the First Lady’s Let’s Move! initiative to ensure that all our children grow up healthy and reach their full potential, the activities will encourage children to lead healthy, active lives."
Past years have featured celebrity chefs cooking in the Kids' Kitchen with Mrs. Obama, a mini farmers market and gardening crafts, celebs reading on the Storytime Stage, and A-list music acts, as well as costumed characters ranging from the Power Rangers to Adventure Time's Finn and Jake.
