New White House Petition Demands President Obama 'Nationalize The Twinkie Industry'

Following Hostess Brands, Inc.'s announcement on Friday that it will liquidate after a long labor dispute with workers, a petition posted on the White House's 'We the People' website calling for President Obama to take over the company and "Nationalize the Twinkie industry" rapidly gained enough signatures to become publicly viewable.  Posted by "Daniel B" of Kansas City, MO, the petition read simply "We the undersigned, hereby request Barack Obama to immediately Nationalize the Twinkie industry and prevent our nation from losing her sweet creamy center."

The petition needs 25,000 signatures by Dec. 16 to warrant an Administration response.

As many as 18,500 workers could lose their jobs if Hostess liquidates.  President Obama has made no statement about the issue, but during his 2012 reelection race, during stump speeches in Iowa he described his fondness for fried Twinkies.  (Above:  A screenshot of the petition)

"What’s happening with Hostess Brands is a microcosm of what’s wrong with America, as Bain-style Wall Street vultures make themselves rich by making America poor. Crony cap
italism and consistently poor management drove Hostess into the ground, but its workers are paying the price," AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka said in a statement.
