#WHGarden: A special day at the White House for social media users; deadline to apply is Sept. 25th...
The White House this year expanded the annual Fall Garden Tours, extending the event to four days in October rather than one weekend, as in years past. A third garden event has just been announced: On Friday, Oct. 19, social media enthusiasts can attend the White House Social Fall Garden Tour. The event is designed to get folks Tweeting, Facebooking, Storifying and Tumbling their visit to the historic grounds, using the hashtag #WHGarden. The special social media tour across the South Lawn includes First Lady Michelle Obama's Kitchen Garden, the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden, and the Rose Garden, home to some of President Obama's most important speeches--and one State Dinner. Applications are required, and the registration page is now open; the deadline to apply is Tuesday, September 25th at 11:59 PM ET. "Registration is open to those adults who are active users who follow or like official White House social media accounts on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+," the White House said. The Twitter is @WhiteHouse. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, and tickets are non-transferable.
Lucky participants will be notified "no later than" Friday, September 28th, the White House said.
The already announced 2012 Fall Garden Tours will take place on Saturday, October 13th from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Sunday, October 14th from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and Friday, October 19th from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and Saturday, October 20th from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Tickets are required for each visitor, including small children. The National Park Service will distribute free, timed tickets at the Ellipse Visitor Pavilion located at 15th and E Streets on each tour day beginning at 8:00 AM. Tickets will be distributed -- one ticket per person -- on a first-come, first-served basis.
