President Obama Gives Iowa Couple A Surprise Wedding Gift

President sends silver Mint Julep cup and tray to swing state couple after taking over their ceremony venue...
The Obama campaign's attempt in June to establish a wedding registry as a fundraising tool met with round excoriation on the internet, but President Obama offered a special wedding gift of his own to an Iowa couple after he took over their ceremony venue earlier this month. Sayli and Jon Gibbs received a silver tray and a Mint Julep cup, both with the Presidential seal, and a handwritten note from the President after they got married on Sept. 1 at Living History Farms in Urbandale, Iowa.

The President had taken over the venue in the swing state for a campaign event during his Road to Charlotte tour, and the couple were warned by organizers that his rally could interrupt their big day, reported Yahoo. The President's event didn't interrupt the wedding, but the couple still got the gift of a lifetime. Photographer Loren Paul snapped a picture of the gift, and a friend posted it on Reddit.com, where it made the front page and received hundreds of comments.

"President Obama planned a last-minute rally right on top of our friend's wedding a few weeks ago (same day and place)," was written with the posted photo. "The staff and secret service were very gracious about it, and when it was over they received this gift and note."

"Congratulations on the wedding. Michelle and I wish you a great life together. Barack Obama," read the President's hand-written note.

Neither Sayli nor Jon is a registered Democrat; "nonetheless, they were still delighted to receive the gift," reported Yahoo.

"Love him or hate him, it's a gift from the president," said Jon Gibbs.

One Reddit commenter questioned how the President had gifts like that on hand, writing, "I wonder if the President has a box of emergency presents, just for times like these."

Why not? The President also has homebrewed White House beer stashed aboard his tour bus. But the gift seems to have been sent after the President's tour.
