White House Promises To Unveil Homebrew Beer Recipe If Petition Gets Required Signatures

A red, white & brew-ha-ha...
Press Secretary Jay Carney on Thursday tweeted that if the current homebrew petition on the White House 'We the People' site achieves the threshold number of signatures for a response to the request for the recipe for White House Honey Ale, "we'll release it."

Carney's tweet was posted at 4:57 PM. Created on Aug. 18, the petition needs 25,000 signatures by Sept. 17, 2012.

"I’m not aware of any plans at this time to divulge the secret recipes," Carney told reporters earlier on Thursday during the daily press briefing. The White House microbrewing project has been making global headlines since March of 2011, when Obama Foodorama first reported that the President and First Lady's talented chefs are the first to homebrew in the history to homebrew at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

The news on August 14th that President Obama is toting homebrew aboard Ground Force One re-ignited interest in the subject. Along with the petition, one crafty beer-lover made a creative effort to file a Freedom of Information Act request for details about the top-secret recipe. The White House is excluded from such requests.

"In keeping with the brewing traditions of the founding fathers, homebrewers across America call on the Obama Administration to release the recipe for the White House home brew so that it may be enjoyed by all," reads the petition.
