More than 15,400 signatures still needed...
The number of signatures on the White House homebrewed beer recipe petition shot up over the weekend, going from 4,802 signatures on Friday morning to 9,443 on Monday morning as of this writing. The action comes on the heels of Press Secretary Jay Carney announcing last Thursday that the White House will release a recipe for White House Honey Ale if the petition achieves the required threshold of 25,000 signatures.
Launched on August 18, the petition had 8,880 signatures on Sunday morning. Signing requires creating an account on WhiteHouse.gov.'s 'We the People' site. SIGN the White House beer petition here.
The last time the White House issued an official response to a food-related petition was January of 2012, when Doug McKalip of the White House Rural Council/Domestic Policy Council responded to a petition about raw milk sales. A petition launched in May from the Just Label It campaign asking the Obama Administration to support mandatory labeling for GMO foods is now closed, after receiving 33,193 signatures. It has not received a White House response. (Above: The petition on Monday morning)
