Meet The Crust Master in September: Free and open to the public...Boston residents, mark your calendars: President Obama's favorite pie maker, Executive Pastry Chef Bill Yosses, will lecture about food science at Harvard University on Monday, Sept. 17. Yosses is an expert in molecular gastronomy, and his open-to-the public lecture is part of his new side career as America's most popular speaker on the topic; it's his third time at Harvard. And in July, the Crust Master took his talents to the international stage, wowing a crowd in Dublin, Ireland, during a lecture-demo at the Euroscience Open Forum 2012. At the conference where Nobel laureates were sprinkled like sugar crystals across the program, Yosses spoke about the 'Science and the future of Cuisine'--which later got him plenty of attention from conspiracy theorists.
At Harvard, Yosses will be speaking about food science topics related to the very popular Harvard College General Education course "Science and Cooking: From Haute Cuisine to the Science of Soft Matter," which teaches science skills with, yes, pink cupcakes, which featured prominently in Yosses' 2011 appearance.
The lecture will be from 7-9 PM at Harvard's Science Center Hall, 1 Oxford Street, Cambridge, MA. Seating is first-come, first serve and attendees are advised to arrive early. Harvard is running a full slate of acclaimed world-class chefs for its Fall lecture series, including DC's own José Andrés, and New York's Dan Barber, both White House guests chefs and longtime supporters of the Let's Move! campaign. This summer Yosses also gave a junior version of his lecture at a Harvard summer camp co-sponsored by ChopChop magazine, where he joined elementary school kids for a day of food science fun. Yosses was one of America's foremost pastry chefs before becoming a permanent member of the White House residence staff in 2007.
