Senior Policy Advisor for Healthy Food Initiatives Sam Kass will give the keynote address at the "Focus on Obesity" conference hosted by The Root this Friday, July 13, in Washington, DC. Kass will speak about the challenges of obesity in the African American community and the Let's Move! campaign at a noon luncheon during the day-long event, part of the"Black, Fit & Healthy" series. The event is co-sponsored by the nation's largest soda lobby, the American Beverage Association, and President and CEO Susan K. Neely will participate in a panel devoted to "School-Based Solutions" for child obesity.Other sponsors include the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health and HBO, which will screen the child obesity segment of its documentary Weight of the Nation.
