UPDATE, May 2: Kass will announce a new private sector partner that is making "a major commitment" to the Let's Move! campaign, Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) has announced.
"A new partner will make a major commitment to ending the crisis," PHA said in a news release. "Kass will make the commitment public during his presentation at the Weight of the Nation meeting."
PHA is the foundation created to support the Let's Move! campaign, and monitors the private sector commitments for Let's Move!, which include multi-year initiatives from Walmart and other grocers, from Hyatt Hotels and Resorts, from Darden Restaurants, Inc., owner of the iconic chains Olive Garden and Red Lobster, and from Goya Foods, America's largest Hispanic-owned food company, among others. Weight of the Nation is designed to "provide a forum to highlight progress in the prevention and control of obesity through policy, systems and environmental approaches to help advance healthy eating and active living," according to CDC. Panel sessions, presentations, and plenary meetings will examine "how communities, early care and education, medical care, workplaces, states territories and tribes, and schools can be game changers."
Kass will be joined in a panel discussion by Cynthia Ogden, PhD, MRP, senior epidemiologist, CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics and Justin Trogdon, PhD, MA, health economist with RTI International, Public Health Economics Program.
