The Obama camp knows you know there's only one Clooney that matters. So in today's e-mail missive asking supporters to drop $3 to enter the 'Obama, Clooney & You' sweepstakes, George Clooney's first name--and President Obama's name--are both left out of the subject line: "An evening with Clooney."
National Finance Director Rufus Gifford asks for $3 as he reminds donors that the deadline to enter the sweepstakes is tomorrow, Monday. He also advises that the May 10th dinner at Clooney's Los Angeles mansion comes "right as the general election kicks off." About 150 non-winner donors will pay $40,000 for the dinner event, co-hosted by DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg.
Clooney and the President both attended the WHCA Dinner on Saturday night in DC. The film star did not earn any barbs from the President, though Clooney puts the "fun" in fundraising, First Lady Michelle Obama said in an e-mail on Friday about the LA event. Her missive followed a string of e-mails from President Obama and his aides, as well as a constant promo for the contest on @BarackObama's Twitter account.
The text of Gifford's e-mail:
By pitching in $3 or whatever you can before tomorrow's fundraising deadline, you won't just be automatically entering yourself for the chance to spend an evening with President Obama at George Clooney's house -- you'll also be strengthening this organization at a critical time, right as the general election kicks off.
Why wouldn't you give it a shot?
We're paying for airfare and accommodations -- and you can invite a guest, too. The deadline's tomorrow, so there's really no reason not to throw your name in the hat now.
