Julianna Smoot's New E-Mail For "Dinner With Barack" Contest

Former Social Secretary increases donation request, says she's "jealous" of those who might dine with President...
UPDATE, Jan. 6, 2012: CLICK To READ: Second "Dinner with Barack" contest turns into lunch
President Obama sent an e-mail to supporters on Wednesday, announcing a contest for dinner companions. For a $5 donation to his campaign fund, the President wrote, supporters will be entered into a pool, and four lucky winners will be selected to have a "casual" Dinner With Barack, at an unspecified location. Deputy Campaign Manager Julianna Smoot sent a follow-up e-mail to supporters today, upping the baseline cash request by 300%. (Above: Smoot with the President during the 2010 Easter Egg Roll)

"You should really give this a shot," Smoot wrote. "Donate $20 or more today to be automatically entered for the chance to sit down for dinner with the President."

A longtime fundraiser for the Obama organization, Smoot served as President and First Lady Obama's second White House Social Secretary for a little less than a year before leaving her post to work on the 2012 Campaign. Smoot writes that she's envious of those who might dine with the President, because she's never done it herself.

"I've worked for President Obama for almost five years -- but I've never actually sat down for dinner with him," Smoot wrote. "That's why I'm excited about (and maybe a little jealous of) the opportunity you have to join the President for dinner."

Dinner With Barack will be a low key event, Smoot noted in her e-mail, just as the President did in his.

"This isn't going to be a formal affair or a banquet for hundreds of guests. It's just you, three other supporters, and President Obama, sitting down together for an evening among friends," Smoot wrote.

She closed the e-mail with "Good luck."

The contest closes on 11:59 p.m. on 6/30/11. The Campaign will pay the airfare for Dinner Winners who are not in Washington, DC. The e-mail contains a disclaimer, noting that no donation is necessary to enter the contest to win Dinner With Barack.

The subject heading for Smoot's e-mail read "Dinner with the President." The subject heading for the President's e-mail read "Dinner?"

Here's the full e-mail:

Friend --

I've worked for President Obama for almost five years -- but I've never actually sat down for dinner with him.

That's why I'm excited about (and maybe a little jealous of) the opportunity you have to join the President for dinner. He's going to sit down and swap stories over a meal with four supporters, and you could be one of them.

You should really give this a shot. Donate $20 or more today to be automatically entered for the chance to sit down for dinner with the President:

This isn't going to be a formal affair or a banquet for hundreds of guests.

It's just you, three other supporters, and President Obama, sitting down together for an evening among friends.

It's not often you get to talk to the President one on one about your hopes for the country and your ideas for this campaign. So I hope you'll put your name in the running.

Donate $20 today, and you'll be automatically entered for the chance to claim your seat the table:

Good luck,

Julianna
