China State Dinner, Outside The White House

Protesters were gathered in Lafayette Square Park all day on Wednesday, across the street from the White House, protesting the State Visit of China's President Hu Jintao. This photo was taken in the evening; behind the protesters, the colored lights that filled the ground floor of the White House as part of the State Dinner party decor can be seen.

As President Hu arrived shortly after 6:00 PM, the chants of the protesters could be clearly heard under the North Portico, as President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama greeted him.

There were hundreds of protesters at night and during the day; the photo at top shows just a small group. The photo above, shot earlier in the day, also shows just a portion of the crowd.
