First Lady Delays Let's Move! Announcement

Update: The announcement will be on Thursday, Jan. 20
In light of the tragedy in Arizona, First Lady Michelle Obama has pushed back her major announcement with business leaders about "food formulation, availability and affordability" that was scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 11. Mrs. Obama's delay of the event follows the lead of President Obama, who canceled a Tuesday trip to a GE plant in Schenectady, New York. The US Congress has also postponed most activity for this week. A spokesman for the East Wing said the announcement will be rescheduled, but no date has yet been set.

Today, after observing a moment of silence on the South Lawn in honor of the victims of the Tucson tragedy, President Obama had a previously scheduled working lunch with President Nicolas Sarkozy of France, while Mrs. Obama dined privately with First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy. UPDATE: On Monday afternoon, the President spoke about the tragedy from the Oval Office, during a joint press conference with President Sarkozy. The White House later announced that the President will travel to Arizona on Wednesday. President Obama first spoke to the nation about the events in Tucson on Saturday afternoon.
