Bill Yosses Will Give Science Lectures At Harvard

Obama chef/policy advisers José Andrés and Dan Barber will lecture, too
President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama have relentlessly encouraged educational achievement, so it makes perfect sense that their beloved Crustmaster, Executive Pastry Chef Bill Yosses, will be a guest lecturer this Fall for a pathbreaking new undergraduate science course at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts--which also happens to be where both Obamas earned their law degrees. Yosses will also be giving an evening lecture that's open to the public.

In an op ed piece that appears in today's print edition of USA Today, First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden urge Americans to support active troops, military families, and veterans, and welcome them home, following the end of the combat mission in Iraq.

"Our military families are strong, resilient and proud to serve their country. Nonetheless, they don't always feel that the rest of the country is part of the war effort," Mrs. Obama and Dr. Biden write.

A comedic illustration of President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama is on the cover of Utne Reader's Fall issue, which just hit newsstands. The cover story article, Food Fight, is by bestselling author Michael Pollan, who parses America's current crop of food and ag advocates, and dubs Mrs. Obama "the food movement's most important ally in the administration."

"It's a mistake to underestimate what a determined First Lady can accomplish," Pollan writes.

President Obama Proclaims September "National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month"

Calls on Americans to join First Lady's campaign
Dubbing childhood obesity a national health crisis equivalent to America's polio epidemic of the 1940s and '50s, President Obama on Monday issued a proclamation naming September 2010 as National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month. It comes just after First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! campaign is officially six months old, and in advance of the next phase of the campaign, which kicks off on September 8, when Mrs. Obama travels to New Orleans to put the spotlight on healthier school environments and fitness.

"We must do more to halt and reverse this epidemic," President Obama writes. "Our history shows that when we are united in our convictions, we can safeguard the health and safety of America's children for generations to come."
