New interview: Kass dishes on presidential food preferences; says his cooking career started at age six; dubs carrots & peanut butter a healthy "classic snack"...Video
The Food Channel has just posted a new interview with Senior Policy Adviser for Healthy Food Initiatives Sam Kass, who is First Lady Michelle Obama's right hand man (or in this case, left hand; Kass, like President Obama, is a lefty). Kass talks about the Let's Move initiative, Chefs Move to Schools, and how parents can help kids eat healthier foods at home. But reporter Kristin Nero can't resist asking Kass questions that have nothing to do with Mrs. Obama's campaign. (The President at top; Kass, inset)
"How does President Obama like his eggs?" Nero asks.
"He eats them in a few different ways," Kass answers, then amends the response.
"He's a hard boiled guy," Kass says, decisively.
Kass declines to go on the record about how President Obama takes his steak, however.
"That's top secret information," Kass laughs. "That's classified."

Kass as child cooking prodigy...?
Kass credits his career as one of the President and First Lady's Top Toques to his own mother, when he's asked how he started cooking.
"If you ask my mom...when I was like six, making her breakfast in bed on Mom's day," Kass says.
Staying on message, during the interview Kass encourages parents to make fruit and vegetables readily available to kids when they get home from school, as a way of ensuring they don't eat junk foods for snacks.
"Set kids up for success," Kass says. "Make sure that there are healthy snacks available and around fruit...fresh or canned is great...nuts...don't hide the apples in the back of the refrigerator."
"Carrots and peanut butter are a classic," Kass says, about kid snack options.
The interview was shot in July, when Kass visited the School Nutrition Association's massive annual convention, held in Dallas, Texas. It was there that Kass' new title, Senior Policy Adviser for Healthy Food Initiatives, was first announced publicly.
