Global Obama Foodie Homage: Dublin & Bishkek

President Obama is much beloved in foodie establishments outside America...
President Obama is doing double duty in Dublin, Ireland, at a cafe on Wexford Street. He's been transformed on Shepard Fairey's iconic Hope poster into St. Nick, in the photo, above, courtesy of The Obama Diary. (Above: A bartender/barista in action at the cafe, as patrons admire Santabama)

The Irish cafe serves both liquor and coffee, which when sold in combination in cans, has become a highly contentious beverage in the US, with FDA warning against the dangers of such post-modern rocket fuel. Perhaps the President has been jacked into an Irish Santabama in hopes that the US will assist in some kind of economic bailout, wink wink wink. The photos were shot on December 6.

The Obama Bar & Grill in Kyrgyzstan
And from ObFo reader Gregory Barbour, who happens to live in the President's birth state--that would be, er, Hawaii--the lovely photo, below, of the Obama Bar & Grill in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, which opened in early November.

Barbour's pal took the photo after visiting the fine dining establishment, which features images of the President all over the walls, and what it bills as "Real American cuisine." That translates to bar food: Burgers, turkey burgers, French fries...even tortillas.

Barbour wrote that his pal said "the food was good," though tragically, the eatery televises US college football but no NFL. Not necessarily Obama approved, then, as the President is an avid NFL fan; this year, his affection has been focused on the New Orleans Saints. Quarterback Drew Brees is currently co-chair of the Presidents Council on Fitness, Nutrition and Sports. Saints players have even been "guest chefs" in the White House, joining Sam Kass for some Gulf seafood fun in the kitchen.

The President was within spitting distance of the Obama Bar & Grill this weekend, when he showed up in Afghanistan for a three hour holiday visit with US troops, but there was no layover in Bishkek for take-out Hot Wings. Wink wink wink, again.
