Obama Foodie Homage In Asheville, North Carolina: President's Spring Break Ale

Foodtopia's most popular brew...gifted to the Obamas. Video after jump...
The folks at Asheville Brewing Company have already sold out of the special, limited edition President's Spring Break Ale they created in honor of President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama's weekend visit to the small city along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Two bottles of the ale were included in a gift basket sent to the President and Mrs. Obama, according to brewery manager Aaron Penta. He also said that "someone" from the Secret Service picked up five more bottles to take back to the Grove Park Inn, the resort where the First Couple is staying. (The bottle label, above)

Demand, of course, was high for the batch of 450 bottles that were brewed and being sold "on location" at two different outlets the microbrewery runs in town, Penta also told the Asheville Citizen-Times. Asheville bills itself as "the only Foodtopian Society in the world," and has seven microbreweries, 17 active farmers markets, and about 250 restaurants. Brewery co-owner Lisa Leokum describes the brew in the video above, courtesy of Politico; there's also Baracky Road ice cream and Obama Dogs featured. Other, non-food Asheville merchants got in on the Obamacitement, too, including a bookstore, a yarn store, and clothing stores.
