First Lady Will Speak To US Mayors About Impact Of Childhood Obesity

Update: The post about Mrs. Obama's speech is here
Tomorrow, on the one year anniversary of her husband's inauguration, First Lady Michelle Obama will address the nation's mayors during their annual meeting in Washington, DC. Mrs. Obama has announced that combating childhood obesity will be her signature project as First Lady, and she'll be leading the Obama administration's charge to dramatically improve the health of America's children.

"We have a chance to change the fate of the next generation if we get on it," Mrs. Obama said last week, when discussing the child obesity epidemic. She added that she's willing to do "whatever it takes."

Tomorrow's speech at the winter meeting of the United States Conference of Mayors will be the opening salvo in her focused campaign. America's mayors are a critical population to reach out to, since they're the leaders in their local communities. Mrs. Obama's speech is scheduled for 3:00 PM Eastern time. On Thursday, the mayors will meet at the White House with President Obama, and during their conference, they'll also hear from Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan, and Education Secretary Arne Duncan, among other top-level administration officials.
