Fiesta Latina at the White House Tonight, Featuring Guest Chef Maricel Presilla

Tonight, First Lady Michelle Obama and President Obama host the final installment of the White House Music Series. "In Performance at the White House: Fiesta Latina" will be a concert on the South Lawn, and celebrates Hispanic musical heritage.

Cuban-born chef Maricel E. Presilla will be the featured chef for the event; she's the first high-profile female chef to cook at the White House. Presilla is the chef/owner of Cuchuramama and Zafra Kitchens restaurants in Hoboken New Jersey, which are artisanal South American eateries. She's also a culinary historian specializing in the foods of Latin America and Spain, and holds a doctorate in medieval Spanish history from New York University. She's the author of numerous cookery books on Pan Latin cuisine, which are food histories with recipes.

Performances, musical and otherwise, will include: Gloria Estefan, José Feliciano, George Lopez, the Bachata music group Aventura, and the Chicano rock band Los Lobos. Sheila E. leads the house band.

The program will air on TV as part of WETA in Washington's In Performance at The White House, October 15, 2009 at 8 p.m. ET on PBS stations nationwide. Other show times: Oct. 18 on Telemundo and Dec. 25 on V-me.
