Protesters have been in Pittsburgh all week, in advance of First Lady Michelle Obama and President Obama's arrival later today for the G20 Summit. There's been a huge amount of activity, covering issues from climate change and food security to anti-globalization. Code pink has a tent city, last night rocker Joan Jett performed. Among other things, today there will be a student protest and lunch, with a march scheduled into downtown Pittsburgh. Yesterday, Greenpeace hung the banner, above, from a bridge near downtown, and activists rappelled off the bridge to make their point. Nine were arrested. G Infinity Media, part of Pittsburgh IndyMedia project, has all the People's Action; check out their site here, with all lots of Twitterers, for real-time info.Climate change issues in America are a contentious topic in the Agriculture sector, with Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack urging farmers and agribusiness interests to help pass an upcoming climate bill in the Senate, because of the economic benefits of a cap and trade program. Newly minted Senate Ag Committee chair Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark) has already come out against the program, and said she believes cap and trade isn't in the best interest of farmers (audio file).
