Life--er, Ice Cream--Imitates Art in The Obama Foodorama

In one of the more bizarre turns in the Obama Foodorama, Ben & Jerry's has now created Yes Pecan!, an ice cream flavor that seems to be inspired by a piece of Obama foodie ephemera (at left) that was going around the 'net during the campaigns.

There were just tons of graphical foodie images created for Obama during Election Season, as you'll note from a quick glance at the sidebar, but there were also foodie graphics for Hillary Clinton, John McCain and Sarah Palin (our own Sarah You Can't Blink Palin Cupcake was linked more places than we could count). But this is the first actual food, that we know of, to be created from a food spoof image. The ice cream was entirely fictitious until Ben & Jerry's decided to turn it in to an actual flavor. The difference of a comma in the title and the lack of Barack's image between the fictitious ice cream and the now-real one, we're guessing, is an attempt to avoid any kind of niggling lawsuits (compare the "fake" ice cream, above, with the "real" one, below)...

Ben & Jerry's describes Yes Pecan! as "amber waves of buttery ice cream with roasted non-partisan pecans." During January, proceeds of sales of the flavor sold at Ben & Jerry's "Scoop Shops" will be donated to Common Cause Education Fund. Additionally, for every person who joins Common Cause or donates $1 in January, Ben & Jerry's will also donate $1. That's pretty fab.

And nope, unfortunately we don't know who created the original Yes, Pecan!, despite furiously searching...but if it was you, drop us an e-mail...

*Baskin-Robbins also has an Obama flavor, Whirl of Change.
