Celebrating From The Root Up To The Stars

The hot ticket in town tonight was The Root Ball, at the just-reopened National Museum of American History. In center of pic: DJ Biz Markie spins tunes. The food was Hawaiian in honor of Barack, but there was also a spread from Ben's Chili Bowl. Spotted: Eric Holder, Oprah, Diane Von Furstenberg, Spike Lee (with a wife who is stunningly lovely and apparently just as smart), Samuel L. Jackson, and Root editor-in-chief Henry Louis Gates, Jr..

No idea if Bam and Michelle showed up...they weren't at the event when we were, and we're guessing not, because security seemed light. But we've been repeatedly advised that we're being watched at all moments while in DC, and not to let the lack of visible security fool us....

And definitely check out The Root. It's a really excellent online magazine edited by Henry Louis Gates, Jr., a well-known activist, writer and scholar. The Root describes itself as a daily online magazine that provides thought-provoking commentary on today's news from a variety of black perspectives. And guess what, all you non-black people? These are perspectives you need to understand to continue the project of humanity that Barack's election has started.
